“One good head is better than a hundred strong hands. __ Thomas Fuller
Tehsil Mendhar of district Poonch is a sensitive border tehsil and often remains in news for truce violations by Pakistan army from time to time. This tehsil is also the epicentre of political activities and a decade ago, there had been three MLC’s and an MLA at a time. In addition to these, cross –border- Norco – terror is another threat too. Maintaining law and order there is not an easy task. IGP Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh and DIG Rajouri – Poonch range, Vivek Gupta have been ASP at Mendhar.
The administration remains very careful while transferring SDPO there and sends an excellent police officer of proven integrity at all levels. At present, Sub Division Police Headquarter Mendhar is commanded by DySP Neeraj Padyar. “Conviction, Courage and Commitment — these C’s sum up the lucky two years (approx.) of Neeraj Padyar command. Two years of his command, which will be completed on Sep 13, 2020, would unequivocally go down in the annals of history as years of far-reaching and bold yet benevolent decisions taken against all odds. A KPS officer known across the UT for his boldness in the most audacious of circumstances. A native of border village Rakh Kangwala of district Samba, did his MBA from Jammu University in 2010 and also qualified NET and JRF two times.
As he was brilliant in academics, he did KPS in the very first attempt. During training at SKPA Udampur, he got all-round best cadet award at Police Academy and Sword of honor from his Excellency the then Governor of Jammu and Kashmir NN Vohra at passing out parade. A JKPS officer of 2011 batch of Jammu and Kashmir, he did his probation at district Baramulla in different capacities.
Padyar has been DySP operation at Samba and conducted various anti-militancy operations and neutralized many hardcore militants. He has been in Ganderbal and Kathua on important assignments and showed outstanding professionalism. So, he has been posted as SDPO Mendhar since 13 Sept 2o18. Ever since he has taken over the charge of SDPO Mendhar, crime graph is on the decline like murder, trans-border smuggling and drugs addiction etc. Last month, he has recovered a huge quantity of drugs, arrested drug peddlers and put them behind the bars. The officer has also streamlined the traffic system at Mendhar and also tightened the noose on Gunda elements of that area.
Pictures speak louder than words and in one such picture, DySP Padyar is shown, during ceasefire violations rescued many people to safer places and shifted injured on his shoulder to hospital.
When asked whether he feels any political pressure with his job, the tough as nails Cop says, “I manage it with my professional way. Honesty and courage are powerful weapons in governance. If we possess these two, no one can influence you, how much powerful he or she might be.”
